IMPORTANT

The MDK-02 is a customer/web based product. Customer must be familiar with configuration and setup of Linux. The use of different open source and free software packages commonly used in embedded Linux or non Linux systems are the sole responsibly of the buyer. Earth supports the MDK-02 with a open forum discussion page located here.

What is it? A low cost, 720T ARM, single board computer module for LCD devices utilizing from QVGA (320 x 240) monochrome up to (800 x 600) SVGA LCD displays. Possible applications might be DVM (digital visual messaging), electronic picture frames, user interface applications, and low cost applications requiring an LCD.

Why? Here at EarthLCD.com our goal has always been to find industrial, niche, hobby and OEM applications for our little  LCD inventory of one million units. The majority of our customers use them in embedded PC applications. This means a system ends up costing $300 plus without an LCD. We are targeting the marmalade to help sell LCD's in embedded applications from user interfaces for microcontroller products, electronic signs, electronic picture frame, weather stations, embedded controllers, home automation, remote control, etc.

What? subject to change - a 4.5" x 4.5" CPU card that runs off 5 volts d.c. featuring the LH79520 ARM 720T CPU from Sharp Microelectronics. It has LCD interface, *ethernet, 7.8" Panasonic EDMGRB8KJF (PDF spec sheet) touch screen, touch screen controller,  2 pwm, 1 parallel port, 2 serial ports, IR port, min 4 meg flash, 16 meg SDRAM, 75 Mhz LH79520. Battery operation will also be possible. Price goal is for development kits with color LCD for about $300 and for the CPU module to sell for $149 in single units. The board will be able to plug into a base board that uses 2 MM headers (yes it can be thru hole assembly!) or run stand alone by using Hirose 2 mm wire DF11 type connectors to connect to the LCD and ports.

Application Notes

HOW DO I INTERFACE TO THE SHARP LH79520

We are a beta site for this chip and hope to soon announce a graphics touch terminal and developers kit including packaging for the LCD along with the board.

HOW DO I INTERFACE TO THE INTEL STRONGARM 1110

We recently sent units to multiple customers intending to use this LCD with the StrongARM. The most notable being Prolificx, a New Zealand design house and manufacturer of modular StrongARM products. They hooked it up!  Their website is: http://www.prolificx.com.
